    0.04 sec.

Coxcie (or Coxcyen), Michiel van (1499-1592)

Flemish painter and engraver. After a visit to Rome he based his style on that of Raphael Sanzio, painting religious works such as St Sebastian and Triumph of Christ (both Musée Royal des Beaux-Arts, Antwerp).

Coxcie was born in Mechelen, and became a pupil of Bernard van Orley. On his return from Italy, he worked in Brussels and Antwerp. He also copied the van Eyck brothers' Adoration of the Lamb for Philip II of Spain.
