Crèvecoeur, Michel Guillaume Jean de (1735–1813)

French-born US writer. He used the pseudonym Hector St John. His volume of Letters from an American Farmer (1782), with its descriptions of the American frontier, encouraged many to emigrate to the USA.

Other works include Voyage dans la haute Pensylvanie et dans l'état de New York/Journey into Northern Pennsylvania and the State of New York (1801) and Sketches of Eighteenth-century America, published (1925).
