krakowiak

A Polish dance from the region of Kraków, sometimes introduced into ballets and ballrooms in the 19th century under the name of Cracovienne. In its original form it was danced by all the assembled couples and sometimes words were sung to it. It is in quick 2/4 time. The best-known example is Chopin's concert rondo Op. 14 (1828).
