Crandall, Prudence (later Philleo) (1803-1890)

US educator and abolitionist. Crandall worked for women's rights and temperance throughout her life.

She was born in Hopkinton, Rhode Island. She attempted to train young black women as teachers in her Canterbury, Connecticut, boarding school 1833-34, provoking passage of local legislation and harassment ranging from arrest to violent attacks.
