crane flyAny fly of the family Tipulidae, with long, slender, fragile legs. They look like giant mosquitoes, but the adults are quite harmless. The larvae live in soil or water. AS I chased a crane-fly out of the kitchen, my three-year-old granddaughter Rhiannon asked what was the matter. got together this summer to form a crane-fly study group. European crane-fly adults (one of the resident species), which resemble large, loosely-constructed mosquitoes, will be noticed in August and September as they fly around turf and even into homes. |
