Crathes Castle

Castle near Crathes, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, built 1546–96 on the north side of the River Dee by the Burnett family. It contains original tempera painted ceilings, and the problem of preserving these has prompted the establishment of a centre for the restoration of tempera in Edinburgh. Crathes was given to the National Trust for Scotland in 1951.
