Creasy, Edward Shepherd

Creasy, Edward Shepherd (1812–1878)

English historian and lawyer. He was appointed professor of history at London University in 1840 and was chief justice of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) 1860–70. His best-known work is The Fifteen Decisive Battles of the World 1851. He was knighted in 1860.

Creasy was born in Bexley, Kent, and studied at Cambridge University. He became a barrister in 1837 and served as assistant judge at the Westminster Sessions Court.
