Creede

Town in southwestern Colorado, USA, in the San Juan Mountains and the Rio Grande gorge, 105 km/65 mi northwest of Alamosa; seat of Mineral County; population (1990) 362. There is some mining of high-quality silver ore in the vicinity, and tourism is important.

Creede was a rowdy boom town from 1890, when silver was discovered, until 1893, when prices declined and most of the mines closed.
