Creusot, Le

French town in the département of Saône-et-Loire, 65 km/40 mi northwest of Mâcon; population (2001 est) 25,900. It is in a coalfield, and has neighbouring iron-ore mines. There are numerous metal and engineering works, including the manufacture of armaments and nuclear reactors.
