Crisfield

City in Somerset County, at the extreme south of Maryland's Eastern Shore, USA, on Tangier Sound, 37 km/23 mi south-southwest of Salisbury; population (1990) 2,900. Settled by the 1660s, it has long been one of the Chesapeake Bay's best known fishing centres, a marketer of oysters, crabs, finfish, and terrapin, with a large fleet and local fishing-tool producers.

Janes Island, a 1,240 ha/3,060 ac state park, is immediately to the west. There are ferries to Smith Island (to the west) and Tangier Island, in Virginia (to the south-southwest).
