Limpopo

River in southeast Africa, rising in the Magaliesberg to the west of Pretoria in Gauteng Province, South Africa, and flowing through Mozambique and into the Mozambique Channel at Delagoa Bay; length 1,600 km/1,000 mi. It is also known as Crocodile River.

The Limpopo flows in a semicircular course, forming the boundary between Northern Province, South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. It is navigable only for some 210 km/130 mi, below its confluence with the Olifants River, its main tributary, but its mouth is obstructed by sandbars.
