Cropsey, Jasper (Francis) (1823–1900)

US painter. He concentrated on landscape painting. Considered a member of the Hudson River School of painting, his theatrical and naturalistic canvases, such as View of the Kaaterskill House (1855), and Autumn on the Hudson River (1860), reveal his romantic approach to nature.

He was born in Staten Island, New York. He studied architecture, but after travelling in Europe, he settled in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York in 1864.
