Crow, Sheryl Suzanne (1962- )| US singer and songwriter whose music fuses rock and country to produce a distinctive sound. Her first album, Tuesday Night Music Club (1993), became a big hit, especially after the release of the feel-good single ‘All I Wanna Do’. Other albums include Sheryl Crow (1996), featuring the hit singles ‘If It Makes You Happy’ and ‘Everyday is a Winding Road’; The Globe Sessions (1998); and C'Mon C'Mon (2002), featuring the hit single ‘Soak Up the Sun’. |
| Crow was born and grew up in the small town of Kennett, Missouri. She earned a degree in classical music from Missouri State University and moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1986. She performed as a backup singer with Michael Jackson on his Bad world tour 1987-88 and soon became a backing singer for various artists, including Don Henley, Rod Stewart, and Eric Clapton, before embarking on a solo career. |
| She released her hit single ‘The First Cut is the Deepest’, a cover of the Cat Stevens song, in 2003, and a ‘Best of’ album the following year. In 1995 she won Grammy Awards for Best New Artist, Best Female Rock Vocalist, and Record of the Year. |
