Cruz, Ivo (1901–1983)

Portuguese conductor and composer. He studied music and law at Lisbon, where he later founded the review Renascimento musical, and resumed his studies at Munich in 1924. On his return to Lisbon he founded a choral society in 1930 and a chamber orchestra in 1933. He was appointed director of the Lisbon Conservatory in 1938.

Works

Nocturnos da Lusitania and Motivos lusitanos (1928) for orchestra, Vexilla regis for soprano and orchestra, sonatina for violin and piano, piano music, songs.
