Cubberley, Ellwood Patterson (1868–1941)

US educator. Cubberley's view of state schools as instruments of social engineering was controversial, but in more than 30 books he helped to make education an academic discipline and to professionalize state school teaching and administration.

He was born in Antioch, Indiana. He was professor 1898–1933 and dean 1917–33 of the new school of education at Stanford.
