Cuclin, Demetre (1885-1978)

Romanian composer. He studied at Bucharest Conservatory and later with Widor at the Conservatory and d'Indy at the Schola Cantorum in Paris. He taught in New York 1922-30, but returned to Romania to become a professor at Bucharest Conservatory.

operas Soria (1911), Agamemnon (1922), Trojan and Bellerophon (1925); overture for chorus and orchestra, sacred and secular choruses; 20 symphonies (1910-72), symphonic scherzo for orchestra; violin concerto; piano trio; violin and piano sonatas, suites for violin and piano and cello and piano; piano pieces; songs.
