Cukor, George (1899–1983)US film director. He is known for sophisticated dramas and light comedies, such as The Philadelphia Story (1940), Gaslight (1944), Born Yesterday (1950), and Pat and Mike (1952). Cukor moved to the cinema from the theatre and was praised for his skilled handling of actors. He won an Academy Award for the direction of My Fair Lady (1964), after having been nominated for the award on four previous occasions. His other films include Little Women (1933), Camille (1937), Holiday (1938), A Double Life (1947), A Star is Born (1954), and Heller in Pink Tights (1960). How to thank TFD for its existence?
