Cumnock

Town in East Ayrshire unitary authority, Scotland, at the river junction of Lugar and Glaisnock waters, 23 km/14 mi southeast of Kilmarnock; population (2001) 9,400. Its traditional coalmining and textiles industries have declined, but the area has been revitalized by new industrial and other developments.

Cumnock was the home town of the Scottish socialist Keir Hardie, one of the founders of the Independent Labour Party in 1893.

3 November 1956, Kilmarnock) is the Deputy Leader of the Scottish Labour Party, former Minister for Justice in the Scottish Executive, and Member of the Scottish Parliament for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley.
It is 8 km south east of Cumnock, about 30 km east of Ayr.
