Cunningham, Harry (Blair) (1907-1992)

US retail executive. He is credited with early recognition and development of the potential of discount retailing.

He was born in Home Camp, Pennsylvania. After 30 years with the S S Kresge discount company, he became president and CEO 1959-72. In 1962 he opened the first Kmart discount store; by 1990 the corporation, renamed Kmart Corporation in 1977, was the country's second-largest retailer.
