Cupar

Former county town and royal burgh in Fife unitary authority, Scotland, on the River Eden, 14 km/9 mi southwest of St Andrews and 16 km/10 mi northeast of Glenrothes; population (2001) 8,500. It remains the industrial and commercial focus for the surrounding agricultural area, with grain mills and engineering and machine works, and corn, cattle, and sheep markets.

Cupar is also a judicial centre, and contains numerous sites of architectural interest reflecting its original administrative status, including county and municipal buildings, the corn exchange, and educational institutes.
