Cupertino

City in Santa Clara County, north-central California, USA, in Silicon Valley, 13 km/8 mi west of San Jose; population (1990) 40,300. Headquarters for Apple Computers, it has developed westward (most rapidly in the 1970s) into an area of fruit orchards and vineyards, settled in the 1850s.
