Cupids

Town in southeastern Newfoundland, Canada, on the northwestern arm of the Avalon Peninsula and the west of Conception Bay, 39 km/24 mi west of St John's; population (1991) 868. Cupids has long been a fishing port.

At the early-17th-century Cupers Cove, John Guy established the Sea Forest plantation, the first formal British colonization attempt in Newfoundland; it failed by 1631.
