Curicó

Town in the Maule region of central Chile, 190 km/118 mi south of Santiago; population (1996) 91,743. Curicó lies at the heart of the country's wine-growing area. It is also a commercial and agricultural centre with a cattle trade, and flour-milling, and distilling enterprises. There is a very fine main square in the town, the Plaza de Armas, which contains several fountains.
