Curran, Charles E (Edward)

    0.01 sec.

Curran, Charles E (Edward) (1934- )

US Catholic theologian. His increasingly liberal views on sexual morality caused controversy, especially after a 1968 encyclical condemning birth control. In 1979 the Vatican began investigating him; in 1986 he was barred from teaching at Catholic University (Washington, DC).

He was born in Rochester, New York. After being ordained and earning advanced degrees in Rome, he taught at a diocesan seminary 1962-65, counselling couples on the side. He then taught at Catholic University, also writing on moral theology.
