Curtin, Phyllis (1921– )

US soprano. She studied in Boston and made her debut as Lisa with the New England Opera Theater in 1946. She sang with the New York City Opera from 1953, making her debut in Von Einem's Der Prozess, and with the New York Metropolitan Opera House from 1961, making her debut as Fiordiligi. She appeared at Glyndebourne in 1969 as Donna Anna, and at Geneva in 1966 as Rosina in the premiere of Milhaud's La mère coupable/The Guilty Mother. Her other roles included Eva, Mozart's Countess, and Violetta (all at the Metropolitan Opera House), Salome, and Walton's Cressida. She retired in 1984 but became active as a teacher.
