Curtis Institute of Music

Music school in Philadelphia, USA, founded by Mary Louise Bok in 1924 in memory of her father, Cyrus Curtis. Since 1928 students have not had to pay tuition fees. Directors have included Josef Hofmann (1926–38), Efrem Zimbalist (1941–68), Rudolf Serkin (1968–76), John de Lancie (1977–85), and Gary Graffman (from 1986).
