Curtius, Ernst (1814–1896)

German classical archaeologist. He superintended the German excavations at Olympia and wrote The History of Greece 1857–67 (English translation by A W W Ward 1868–73).

Born in Lübeck, he became professor of archaeology and philology at Göttingen 1856–63 and of ancient history at Berlin 1868.
