Cushing, Frank Hamilton (1857-1900)

US ethnologist. Regarded as a genius of interpretation, he made major contributions to the field by living among the Zuni for five years and excavating Hohokam and Seminole sites.

He was born in North East, Pennsylvania. He was fascinated with Indian artifacts from an early age. He was appointed to the Bureau of American Ethnology from 1879-1900.
