Cuxhaven

Seaport and health resort in Lower Saxony, Germany, on the southern side of the Elbe estuary, at its entrance into the North Sea, 174 km/108 mi northwest of Hannover; population (1995) 55,400. It is a cross-channel ferry terminus and an important fishing port, the second-largest in Germany, after Bremerhaven.

Schloss Ritzebüttel is a devensive tower, built in about 1300 and enlarged in 1616; it now houses a museum.
