Cwmbran

Town and administrative centre of Monmouthshire, southeast Wales, situated on the Afon Lywel, a tributary of the River Usk; population (2001) 47,250. It was established in 1949 to provide a focus for new industrial growth in a depressed area, and produces scientific instruments, car components, nylon, and biscuits. There are also engineering and electrical industries.
