The island of Mýkonos is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Greek Cyclades. The streets of traditional white houses are built in a labyrinthine design originally intended to confuse any pirates attacking the island in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Group of about 200 Greek islands in the Aegean Sea, lying between mainland Greece and Turkey; area 2,579 sq km/996 sq mi; population (1991 est) 95,100. They include Andros, Melos, Paros, Naxos, and Siros, on which is the capital Hermoupoli.
