cyclotron

Type of particle accelerator in which charged particles follow spiral paths inside hollow evacuated D-shaped chambers to which high-frequency alternating voltage is applied.

Radioactive elements are generated by particle accelerators known as cyclotrons.
Micro-SPECT: Unlike PET, micro-SPECT systems use radiopharmaceuticals that have longer half-lives and do not require the need for cyclotrons to generate a marker.
To compete with cyclotrons, however, the new accelerators need larger lasers.
