Town in Carmarthenshire, southwest Wales, on the River Gwendraeth, near Carmarthen Bay; population (2001) 3,300. Once a centre of industrial activity, with tin-plate works, silica works, brick works, and an optical-glass factory, Kidwelly has an Industrial Heritage museum. The town also contains the ruins of an 11th-century castle. Sea angling and commercial cockle-fishing are carried out nearby.
