Czermak, Johann Nepomuk (1828–1873)

Bohemian physiologist. He made improvements to the laryngoscope (instrument for examining the larynx) and did pioneering work in rhinoscopy (examing the nasal passages).

He was appointed professor of physiology in Budapest in 1858, Jena in 1865, and Leipzig in 1869. At his own expense he built a laboratory and auditorium adapted for demonstrations in experimental physiology.
