Dénia

Town in the province of Alicante, eastern Spain, on the Mediterranean coast; population (1991) 24,700. Tourism is the main economic activity; there is also some ceramics, leather, and fireworks manufacturing. Founded by the Phoenicians, it was important in Roman times; under the Moors its population was 50,000.
