hyrax

Any of a group of small, rodentlike, herbivorous mammals that live among rocks in desert areas, and in forests in Africa, Arabia, and Syria. They are about the size of a rabbit, with a plump body, short legs, short ears, brownish fur, and long, curved front teeth. (Family Procaviidae, order Hyracoidea.)

They have four toes on the front limbs, and three on the hind limbs, each of which has a tiny hoof. There are nine species of hyrax. They are related to elephants.
