DORA

In the UK, acronym for the Defence of the Realm Act, passed in November 1914, which conferred extraordinary powers on the government for the duration of World War I. Their general tenor was to prevent communication with the enemy, prevent spreading of false reports, and secure the safety of the armed forces, but beneath that lay a multitude of regulations and orders affecting the entire population.
