Da Costa, Izaak

    0.04 sec.

Da Costa, Izaak (1798-1860)

Dutch poet and theologian. The ideas and manner of his earlier poetry echo those of Willem Bilderdijk. In 1822 Da Costa became a Calvinist, and his later work, marked by a sincere religious and nationalist fervour, includes Bezwaren tegen de geest der eeuw/Objections to the Spirit of the Age (1823), Hagar (1848), and De slag bij Nieuwpoort/The Battle of Nieuport (1859).
