Dafne, La

    0.01 sec.

Dafne, La

Opera by Jacopo Peri (libretto by Ottavio Rinuccini), first produced in the Palazzo Corsi, Florence, Italy, during Carnival in 1597. It is the first Italian opera and the first opera on record anywhere. In the story, Apollo belittles Cupid but then falls victim to the arrows of love, pursuing an unyielding Daphne.

Marco da Gagliano's opera of the same name (libretto by Rinuccini) was first produced at the ducal court in Mantua, Italy, in January 1608.
