Dahl, Ingolf

Dahl, Ingolf (1912–1970)

German-born US composer. After study in Cologne, Germany, and Zurich, Switzerland, he moved to the USA in 1935, teaching at the University of Southern California from 1945. His earlier work was dissonant and expressionistic; he later came under Stravinsky's influence.

Works

Orchestral

Concerto for saxophone and wind orchestra (1949), Symphony Concertante for two clarinets and orchestra (1953), The Tower of St Barbara for orchestra (1955), Elegy Concerto for violin and orchestra (1963), Aria Sinfonica (1965), Intervals for strings (1970).

Chamber

piano quartet (his first serial work, 1957).
