Dahlmann, Friedrich Christoph

Dahlmann, Friedrich Christoph (1785–1860)

German historian and politician. He was professor at Göttingen 1829–37, and at Bonn from 1842, and was one of the leading liberals at the Frankfurt Parliament in 1848. His chief works include Quellenkunde der deutschen Geschichte 1830 and Geschichte Danemarks 1840–43.

In 1837 he was banished from Hannover for upholding popular rights against the king, and went to Leipzig, and then Jena. Other works include Politik 1835 and histories of the English and French revolutions.
