Dalbeattie

Town and former burgh in Dumfries and Galloway unitary authority, Scotland, on Dalbeattie Burn, 22 km/14 mi southwest of Dumfries; population (2001) 4,300. Granite is a major resource: local quarries and granite-polishing works provided material for the Liverpool Docks, Thames embankment, and several public buildings. Further employment is provided by a creamery, and factories producing hosiery, fertilizers, and animal feed.
