Daly City

City in San Mateo County, north-central California; population (1990) 92,311. It is situated to the southwest of San Francisco, on the Pacific Ocean. A dairy and truck farming area from the 1850s, it grew rapidly after World War II to become part of the continuous urban band extending south from San Francisco. Its industries include nurseries and factories making truck bodies and other iron and aluminium products. It remains largely residential, and has a large Asian community.
