Damanhur

Capital of Buhayrah governorate, northern Egypt, in the River Nile delta west of the Rosetta branch; population (1996) 212,200, (2007 calc) 231,100. Damanhur is situated on the Mahmudieh Canal, and on the railway line between Cairo and Alexandria. It has a trade in cotton and woollen goods.
