dame school

In Britain, former school for young children run singlehanded by an elderly woman. They dated from the 17th century, and were mainly in rural areas. The standard of instruction was generally very low. Such schools were often satirized in 18th- and 19th-century literature.

Sister Agnes was a longtime educator in Notre Dame schools.
For the school has joined an online network of fellow Sisters of Notre Dame schools across Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America.
National schools replaced the Dame schools from 1811, making this one of the first in the country.
