Hill, Damon (1960– )

English racing driver. He won his first Grand Prix in Hungary in 1993. In both 1994 and 1995 he finished as runner-up to Michael Schumacher in the Drivers' Championship. He won the 1996 Formula 1 World Drivers' Championship, leading the competition from start to finish, winning eight races and finishing 19 points ahead of his nearest rival. In June 1999, he announced his retirement from Formula 1.

The son of Graham Hill, he began his Formula 1 racing career with Brabham in 1992 before replacing Nigel Mansell at Williams, who had used him as a test driver. He joined the TWR Arrows team for the 1997 season after Williams did not renew his contract, and moved to the Jordan team in 1998.

Herta will be joining Minardi's regular drivers Mark Webber and Alex Yoong, in addition to former Formula One champ Damon Hill, in a charity event held by the Italian-based Minardi.
Renault also has supplied Champion-powered engines to Lotus, Williams and Bennetton F-1 teams, while Champion has helped drivers Michael Schumacher, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve win F-1 world championships.
Damon Hill, the 1996 Formula One champion, is looking for a new team after Arrows-Yamaha announced it will put Mika Salo in Hill's car next year.
