Danbury Hatters Case| US Supreme Court case (Loewe v. Lawler) of 1908 dealing with the right of the federal government to prohibit certain trade union activities. Dietrich Loewe, owner of the Danbury Hat Co. in Connecticut filed suit for damages resulting from a boycott of Danbury Hat products. The boycott was initiated by the United Hatters of North America in support of a strike by the Danbury hatters. The Court ruled unanimously that this sort of secondary boycott was a conspiracy for the restraint of trade, a violation of the Sherman Antitrust act. |
