Dancourt, Florent Carton (1661–1725)

French actor and dramatist. He played Alceste in Molière's Le Misanthrope, and wrote over 40 plays, many of which show his acute observation of both rural and urban manners.

Among them are Le Chevalier à la mode 1687, Les Bourgeoises de qualité 1700, and Le Galant Jardinier 1704.
