Daniel, Peter Vivian

Daniel, Peter Vivian (1784–1860)

US Supreme Court justice. He served the Virginia legislature (1812–35) and was a US district judge (1836–41). President Van Buren made him US Supreme Court justice (1842–60). He supported Jeffersonian principles.

He was born in Stafford County, Virginia.
