Danning, Sophus Christian (1867–1925)

Danish conductor and composer. He studied in Copenhagen, Sondershausen, and Leipzig. He travelled widely, living for a time in Finland, then taught at Copenhagen and in 1899 went to Norway as theatre conductor at Bergen. He was conductor at Oslo 1907–11.

Works

operas Gustav Adolf, Elleskudt and Kynthia; operatta Columbine; incidental music to Oehlenschläger's Aladdin and other plays; symphonies (including Dante) and overtures for orchestra; cantatas; violin concerto; piano pieces; songs.
